Tis the Season for?

"Christmas is not a Time nor a Season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in Mercy, is to have the real spirit of  Christmas." (Calvin Coolidge)

As we vastly approach this season, this time of Christmas; it will do us to good to understand and remember the reason for the season. The reason for the celebrating season is to rejoice, in the first Advent in the birth of Jesus Christ. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, "to bring about our salvation the Son of God  was made "flesh" (John 1:14) and became truly man...". The famous Christmas story of Jesus being born in a manger and of a Virgin named Mary. Besides the actual reason for the season; many may say that Christmas is also a time for family. It is the time where many members of families travel back to their home town or home country. For the reason to spend time with family whom they may have not seen a while. Some families have Christmas traditions; may it be caroling, making certain delicacies and much more. Christmas truly creates a time for family to bond and love to blossom.

However, in our world today, Christmas, as become so commercialized where retails are extremely busy and packed more than any other time of the year. This is because that most people hustle and bustle to find gifts for their loved ones. Mainly we see parents, spouses, significant, family and friends just all over to place to ensure they get the best gift for their loved one. Even groceries are packed as persons seek to buy all sorts of ingredients to make all sort of Christmas dishes and sweets.

In my opinion, as approach the season of Christmas let us no longer be misguided by the commercializing and materializing of Christmas. Sometimes I feel, we go on this ride to obtain gifts for everyone whom we love in our lives but like it just a cycle. People do not really put thought and love in the gift because the season is about gifts so I have to buy gifts. Our employers sometimes endorses this by either granting Christmas bonuses or releasing salaries early. Christmas supposed be a time of giving but that giving should be something we just do for doing sake but out of love.

Christmas also has core to it; which is its reason for the season. Around two thousand years ago, Christ was born for our salvation. That was the best gift that was given to us and without reserve. Let's give to Jesus all of us as He gave of Him on the cross.

After all, tis the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas!
